Annalis Sparatæ: Eremus Archæiæ

[Continued..]

Little is known about the ever armored commander of the Sævii. The crew is usually on the receiving end of his apathetic, yet somehow invigorating tone. The rest of his charisma lies in his mysterious ways. Most of what's known about him is simply speculative based on what is seen of him. For instance, his unique, presumably ancestral, helm. Few, if any, have seen the bare face of Commander Sci. It is rumored that his face was burned in a brutal starfighter crash many year ago in his youth, others say that he simply prefers to see life through his tinted, slightly bent T-shaped visor. Either way, the helm's unique shape and demeanor have become synonymous with the man himself.

Perhaps the only thing truly known about Sci is his proficiency in combat. His long record includes service as a star pilot, a veteran of the first war of the Desertæ cluster, and the sole survivor of the Svian massacre. His history though seemingly brief in time, bears a lifetime of war and heroism. He started out as a simple Spiarii, or fighter pilot, flying a late model SP-86 Vicarii. At this point in time, Sparata was merely a planet wide republic, trying to reach out to it's largest moon, Kræia. The had long been colonized by an exiled space faring colony. The first war of Desertæ commenced. The Kræians had superior space craft, weapons, and armor; they tore into their Sparatan counterparts, repelling the vast wave of frigates and medium fighters with barely organized hordes of light fighters seeping through and between the Sparatan lines. The atmospheres of both celestial bodies were cluttered with space debris. Eventually the Sparatans adopted a brutal, yet effective, tactic. They would lure in hundreds of Kræian fighters to a loosely protected frigate, and at the last moment, when the frigate was irrevocably engulfed, detonated a powerful charge deep in the great ship's fuel lines, destroying everything within the blast radius.

The only Sparatan squadron skilled enough to stand against their swarming lunar enemy was Svii squadron. The squadron, if a group of six elite pilots could be called such, was the last remnants of the squadron based inside the second Sparatan Battleship to fall. The name matters little, as the ship went down with three other vessels on the first day of the war. As the conflict came to a close, the soldiers of Svii squad were recognized for their invaluable service. Sci was among those honored...

The medium battle cruiser hummed deep in the hollow corridors of its steel frame. Heading out of the known galaxy into a dense dust cloud that separated the Desertæ planet cluster from the rest of the universe, the Sævii moved ever further from it's desert home of Sparata. The stars were dim now. So dim that the shape of the vessel could only just be seen.

The elite crew of the Sævii were hand picked by the Imperatii Sparatæ himself - proven warriors; the pride of their Empire. Only the sound of sand scraping against the metal hull of the ship and the low rumble of the Spiorium XII engines could be heard. The crew was armed to the teeth - Plasma Rifles and Pistols, Vibroblades, and more incendiary devices than could be stowed safely on board.

The leader of this expedition was a Sparatan Centurii, designation SP-1116, called Sci...

Dust in the Wind

Yeah, I'm on a...
Intergalactic-Space-Wide-Conflict-With-Laser-Swords-Smugglers
-And-Princesses kind of kick. Although, the generic stuff is okay, too, especially that of my own cognition. I'm particularly intrigued, though with the galaxy of Star Wars, four thousand years before the Fall of the Republic, and the Rise of the Empire. This period, as it has come to be known, is the Knights of the Old Republic (KotOR) era. This era was first spawned by the ingenious developers at Bioware game studios, and published by the Star Wars equivalent of Electronic Arts, LucasArts. The game was was awe inspiring: vast worlds, an epic plot, excellent music, battles that could have easily been a part of the movies, and essentially making your own Jedi to end all Jedi, led up to what has been hailed by millions of unadulterated Star Wars fans, and even objective, average gamers, as the greatest Star Wars game of all time. That was five years ago.

In the year that followed, a rushed development team at Obsidian entertainment, cranked out a wounded, but worthy sequel: Knights of the Old Republic: The Sith Lords. This game, though it had the potential to blow it's predecessor, the amazing KotOR, into the next galaxy, the time-strapped team had to make ends meet on schedule, instead of diligently allowing the team time to finish the game, LucasArts wanted the release to coincide with a DVD release, and forfeit KotOR II to mediocrity.

KotOR III is, theoretically, LucasArts' salvation. The company is no longer trusted by fans release finished, well thought out game nor to release anything the fans want. In short, KotOR III is the King Arthur of the Star Wars gaming galaxy - prone to come out of the heavens at any moment, and destroy the evil of bland titles that LucasArts failed to make shine. The rumors come up year, after year, after year. But alas, though hope has not faded, the more realistic gamers see the ominous loom - KotOR's days of glory are over. A new breed of game has come and gone, and the consoles it made it's mark on have faded into obscurity. Like Revan, it has gone into the Unknown Regions, feared never to return...
